The tower was designed by Belgian architectural firm 51N4E, and its construction begun in January 2007. The building is expected to be ready sometime in 2011. Upon completion, TID Tower will measure 85 metres (279 ft) in hight. The striking tower is designed as a super ellipse – a building style that starts as an ellipse and ends as a rectangle:
According to 51N4E, the subtle transition between these two basic shapes makes a tower which fully captures the Mediterranean light of Tirana, and creates ever changing shadows.
Inside, visitors will find shopping facilities, offices and restaurants. A panorama restaurant will be opened at the top of the building, offering excellent views of the historic city of Tirana.
Last, but not least, the tower was built atop the Suleman Pasha Tomb – visitors can still see this through a circular 3D cut-out at the base of the building, designed to ensure the harmony between a historic attraction and a modern high-rise.
