An interesting and somewhat unexpected pleasure for art lovers visiting Korçë, the avant garde appearance of the Museum of Oriental Art (Muzeu Oriental “Bratko”) amid the town’s almost medieval tone, is impactful. What’s inside is ever more dramatic though. The museum houses an impressive collection of one Dhimitër Boria, an Albanian – American art student and photographer who was very widely traveled.
The short version of the museum’s history is that Boria collected a rather massive number of Japanese and other oriental examples, then put them on display here. Some 400 plus artifacts grace this fascinating museum’s halls. Oriental carpets, to pottery, jewellery, and textiles, 17 countries across Asia are represented here. Not exactly what you would expect to find in a small city tucked in between the Morava Mountains.
The exhibits here include works from; Pandeli Sotir, Petro Nini Luarasi, Naçi Nuci, and of sisters Qiriazi assisted by their brothers George and Gjerazim Qiriazi.
