While in Gjirokastër, don’t miss the Meçites Quarter which boasts an interesting Muslim complex comprising the ruins of a mosque – mosque of Hadji Murad (Murad the pilgrim); seven fountains that were once the main sources of water for ritual bathing, and some are still in operation; and a Hammam, currently under restoration. The roof of the Hamam has been recently repaired by the Gjirokastra Conservation and Development Organization.
