Lake Skadar (Liqeni i Shkodrës)

An ecological treasure of both Albania and Montenegro, Lake Skadar (Lake Scutari and in Albanian Liqeni i Shkodrës, Serbian Skadarsko Jezero) is a massive inland aquatic paradise. Fed by the legendary Morača, these crystal waters flow into the Bojana and hence into the Adriatic. Steeped in history, the lake is now one great natural park on both sides of the border it represents.

The largest lake on the Balkan penensula, Skadar is also one of the largest bird sanctuaries in all Europe. Both the Montenegro and Albanian sides of the lake are wildlife habitats. The brief video below, courtesy Paulbarlow, shows a bit of the pristine lake.
