Durrës Amphitheatre (Amfiteatri i Durrësit)

The Durrës Amphitheatre (Amfiteatri i Durrësit) , the biggest and most important, not only in Albania but also in the Balkans, was built in the 2nd century AD, during the reign of Emperor Trajan. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in Durrës, and a landmark of extraordinary artistic and architectural value. Once, the amphitheater could seat 20,000 people. Today, the the ruins are surrounded by residences, that will probably be removed in the near future to preserve the amphitheater. You’ll find Amfiteatri i Durrësit on a hill 350 m from the sea, on Rruga Kalase.
