Tirana’s Central Market (Pazari i ri) is for many people the heart and soul of this central Albanian city. Fruit and vegetable stands line buzz with commerce every day, colorful displays and people making the experience all the more inviting. Meats, fish, cheeses, and a myriad of other products can be had here, and at very reasonable prices too. Check the square out in early morning to find the most fresh produce and best deals.
If you are a bit squeamish about farm the sight of fresh chickens and the like, you may want to pass the Pazari i ri by, farmers toss baskets of them over the handlebars of their bicycles to get them to market. Aside the “Earthy” methodologies though, the sights, sounds, and smells are mesmerizing. This is a spectacular place to stroll about and take in what being Albanian is all about.
